The Installation Warranty Depends on How It's Installed
Here's the important distinction: you don't need a VELUX Certified Installer simply to qualify for VELUX's installation warranty.
VELUX ties its 10-year installation coverage to qualifying skylights installed correctly with the required VELUX flashing system. The installation has to follow VELUX's instructions.
That makes the training valuable. When a skylight leaks, the problem isn't always the glass or skylight itself. Water can get in around the opening, including at the flashing, underlayment, or where the skylight connects to the roofing system.

Two Limits to Know
Curb-mounted skylights. VELUX offers warranties on its curb-mounted skylights, but the connection between the site-built curb and the roof is a separate roofing detail. If water enters through that interface, warranty coverage can depend on how that part of the roof was built and flashed.
Your shingle warranty is separate. The skylight, its flashing, and the shingles around it can carry different warranties. That's another reason to get the exact skylight and flashing system listed on your estimate.
Replacing Your Roof? Decide About the Skylight Now
A roof replacement is a good time to decide what to do with an older skylight. The shingles and underlayment around it are already coming off, which makes it easier to integrate a new skylight and flashing system directly into the new roof.
Keep an old skylight under a new roof, and its age doesn't reset with the shingles. If the skylight or flashing needs work later, accessing it can mean opening up part of your newer roofing system.
Luecke's can price both options on the same estimate: keep the existing skylight and address the flashing, or replace it with a new VELUX unit.
